This course is presented in 5 modules, takes about 15 hours, self-directed and when complete, the participants will receive a Certificate of Completion.
This course is recommended for settlement sector staff as it aims to build a common base of knowledge, increase awareness and education, and enhance the capacity of service providers to recognize and respond to Gender Based Violence in the settlement sector across Canada.
You will learn the following topics:
- The root causes of gender-based violence and the various forms it can take.
- How to recognize and respond to gender-based violence, including:
- How to respond to disclosures of violence.
- Identifying warning signs of abuse.
- Safety planning and risk assessment techniques.
- Key frameworks, approaches, and strategies to support newcomers, immigrants, and refugees who have experienced violence.
- Strategies for working collaboratively between sectors and mapping community resources to develop a shared knowledge base.
